MR STARK of Springboig complains in your letters page (Evening Times, May 26) of being unable to walk along the entirety of the south bank of the river.

What he may not know is that not all of the walkway along the River Clyde is publicly owned.

He may have encountered the difficulty to which he refers at the Festival Park development (the site of the 1988 Garden Festival) which is, in fact, privately owned.

The gardens stretch to the banks of the river and access to this is understandably restricted to owners of what are essentially private gardens.

While there may be those who sympathise with Mr Stark's complaint of being deprived access to this section of the river bank, it must be accepted that he is referring to private gardens, the maintenance of which (including the walkway and the quay wall) is paid for by owners of properties at Festival Park.

Few people would surely welcome such an intrusion in their own private garden! W D HUNT, Festival Park Plea to save cinema

I'M writing with regards to the article on the Coliseum in Eglinton Street facing demolition after a fire (Evening Times, May 26).

It's an area that has been ravaged by developers and the demolition ball over the years, and that hasn't exactly improved it - far better to have had something with a bit of connection to the area's past, and which would have far more character than most of the rubbish going up these days.

Look at all the new stuff going up along the road at Eglinton Toll - even the most ardent defenders of modern architecture are having trouble seeing anything of merit there. Have you seen what they put up in place of the old Plaza? GARYP, Glasgow West is best

I WAS reading with interest your series on the West End last week and thought about the number of times I have travelled to Byres Road for a few beers.

Ashton Lane was the direction I headed for, and sat outside the pubs, and watched the world go by.

With all the charity shops, book shops and record stores down Byres Road, I will be visiting there for years to come. WILLIAM SANGSTER, Knightswood MPs can't get worse

OUR discredited Parliament does not need a breath of fresh air. It needs a hurricane!

Experts tell us that after the next election, more than half the 646 MPs could be newcomers.

Well bring them on. Things can only get better. GEORGE DRUMMOND, Govan Rules on flight delays

SORRY to see the dinner ladies had their weekend ruined (Evening Times, Dinner ladies' fury at 32-hour flight delay, May 27).

If they are interested, then they should consult denied boarding regulations which places liability on to carriers when any delays occur.

Airlines will do their utmost to minimise their costs when delays occur but they do have obligations and a copy of these regulations should be a must for every airline passenger as they outline their rights. RILEY, Dunoon Talent to spare

IS it just me or is this year's series of Britain's Got Talent surprisingly exciting?

Apart from the over-the-top publicity given to Susan Boyle, I think there are a lot of really exciting acts. I particularly think the dance group Flawless is superb. HOT TOPIC: Utility firms must pay up for pothole hell

IT'S about time these utility firms paid the price for their substandard repair work.

I'm sick of having to dodge huge potholes in the roads which are due to poor-quality repairs.

If companies want to rip up our roads to fit pipes etc, they should ensure they don't leave them in a worse state. LSM, Glasgow What about road tax?

GOOD idea to get the utility companies to pay for road repairs. But what exactly will car road tax money be used for? GLASGOW BOB, Glasgow You couldn't make it up!

NO smoking in pubs and restaurants, fined £30 if you throw a ciggie stub in the street ... but who really cares about potholes and badly-repaired roads?

Now the council comes up with a great idea ... make sure the work gets done properly in the first place! You couldn't make it up! RONNIE CEE, Glasgow Holes filled in

FOUR potholes outside my house were filled in today and they've done a proper job, by the looks of it. However, I don't know if it was the local authority or not. WILD WADI, Kirkintilloch Wait and see

LET'S just wait and see if this really makes any difference, or if the idea is just that, and isn't properly implemented. PEOPLE POWER, Glasgow Buses also to blame

I THINK The Ripped Off Glasgow campaign is missing the point - it says utility companies are to blame for most of the potholes in Glasgow due to bad workmanship but as far as I can see the roads that have all these potholes are also heavy bus routes. SON OF GLASGOW, Glasgow Nightmare for drivers

SOME of the streets in Glasgow city centre are an absolute nightmare to drive on. I'm not sure whether it's due to the utility companies but it is time the council ensures a better standard of roads. REX, Glasgow Sick of bad roads

I AM a keen cyclist and I am sick to death of potholes. What's the point of paying road tax when it doesn't go on roads? WESTENDMAN, Glasgow
