MARK Molesley has told Echosport that he joined Weymouth because he wanted to be involved in “something special”.

The 34-year-old midfielder, who signed a one-year deal with the Terras earlier this week, admitted leaving full-time football behind was tough.

But having made the move to the Bob Lucas Stadium, Molesley is ready to help boss Jason Matthews’ men in their push for the Conference South next season.

He said: “It was a wrench leaving full-time football but I believe I’m getting as close to it as I can by coming to Weymouth.

“I didn’t just want to go and play part-time anywhere, I wanted to make sure it was the right club.

“Jason and the chairman sold the club to me, not that they needed to really, and I was delighted to get the deal done.

“I didn’t want to come here for a holiday, I want to be involved in something special.

“I’d played against Weymouth when they were in the Conference so I knew what a big club they were.

“They’ve got a big stadium, a great crowd, and are a club that is ambitious and who want to be successful.

“One of the mains reasons I came here is to be successful and I’ll put everything into it and do my best for the club.”

Molesley, who has had spells with the likes of Bournemouth, Exeter and Aldershot during his career got to watch the Terras a few times last season as part of his job at the Cherries’ academy.

Meanwhile, former Weymouth and Dorchester striker Matt Groves has been named as player-assistant manager at Wessex League outfit Verwood Town.
