JASON Matthews has spoken out about his big call to leave Terras’ talisman Stewart Yetton out against Leamington on Saturday.
The Terras’ boss left his skipper on the bench for their goalless draw with the Brakes, handing him the final 20 minutes in place of striker Ben Thomson, who was propelled into the starting XI.
Matthews insisted the decision to drop Yetton was one he was pondering until an hour-and-a-half before kick-off, citing the call as his most difficult in management to date.
He told Echosport: “I feel that Yetts needed to be taken out of the firing line on Saturday and he was disappointed.
“But in fairness to him he took it really well and he was a true captain after the game.
“He also came on and gave us a good amount of energy in the last 20 minutes.
“It was the hardest decision of my managerial career.
“He was one of the reasons I took this manager’s job in the first place, because of people like him.
“It was a decision that wasn’t taken lightly and it was one where I probably didn’t make my mind up until about 1.30pm on Saturday.”
He added: “Ben came in and was very good.
“Credit to Ben, he can take that on and it gives me some good options as to whether to go 4-3-3 or 4-4-2.”
