DORCHESTER SPORTS 6 WIMBORNE TOWN RES 0

DORCHESTER Sports made it nine games unbeaten in all competitions to move into the quarter-finals of the Dorset Senior Trophy by defeating a young Wimborne Town side at Cranford Avenue.

Sports were home and dry after just 30 minutes of the contest after they found themselves 4-0 up following a blistering start in difficult conditions.

The home side started brightly and forced the lead on 13 minutes when Adam Steele beat his man to fire a 20-yard strike into the top corner to give Sports the lead.

That gave the home side confidence and striker Jordan Butler then helped himself to a hat-trick in just 15 minutes.

His first came from a Steele corner, the second came from a Jamie Morgan corner and Butler bagged his treble when he finished off with a left-footed shot after full-back Brandon Heal’s surging run and cross, meaning the hosts went in at the break four goals ahead.

Conditions were getting worse during the second half and the home side were now battling with the wind.

Wimborne started to gain more possession but the Sports’ backline limited them to very little clear-cut chances.

The away side had a number of corners during the second period but it was through two set-pieces of their own that Sports added their fifth and sixth goals.

Morgan’s curling right-footed corner flew straight into the net and then his next delivery found the head of Jason Read, who converted to complete the rout.

Sports will now face Dorset Premier League side Bridport Reserves in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Before that, a return to Dorset Senior League action awaits leaders Sports on Saturday when they travel to second-placed Gillingham Town Reserves.
