DORCHESTER Town chairman Matt Lucas has called for the Magpies’ faithful to remain patient as Mark Jermyn starts to compile his squad for next season.

News from the Avenue has been quiet of late as the manager, along with Nick Crittenden and Stuart Heath, decide how to move forward after a lacklustre conclusion to their season.

However, Lucas thinks contact with the players will be made soon.

He told Echosport: “It’s all ok. Jem (Mark Jermyn) is in the process of speaking to the players from now on really and he’s got his ideas.

“He knows what he wants to do and who he wants to link up with, so it’s all under control.”

A player waiting to hear from the Magpies’ manager is goalkeeper Shane Murphy.

The stopper, who missed the end of the season with a groin injury, is hopeful the manager will give him some good news this week.

He said: “We (the squad) haven’t got long to wait now and we will have to see what he says.

“It’s what he wants and that’s what will happen.”

Despite the time without contact, Murphy is relaxed and enjoying his time off, but that doesn’t mean he’s not trying to improve his game.

“Everyone is enjoying their time off, but it’s not too long to wait.

“People are getting anxious but we know where we stand and it’s hopefully good news.

“My aim is to stay at Dorchester and be first choice next season and get a full season under my belt.

“I’ve already started my work in the closed season and I want to be prepared as best as I can be.”
