DORCHESTER Town’s vice-captain Nathan Walker is aiming for his best in front of goal next season after he extended his stay at the Avenue for another year.

The versatile player played both at the back and up front for the Magpies last season and his manager, Mark Jermyn, has told Echosport that he plans for Walker to play a striking role for the side next term alongside new signings Ben Wood and Mario Mateus.

Walker feels comfortable wherever he is on the pitch but he has already started setting himself targets for the season.

He told Echosport: “I will play wherever the manager puts me.

“If he plays me up front then I will do that job for the team.”

Walker made the striking role his own towards the back end of last season, scoring 12 goals in the last half of the campaign, nearly stealing the golden boot from Charlie Davis.

However, the fan favourite is hoping to go one better this year.

He added: “If I am up front, I will enjoy it and I will score 20 goals.”

When asked what happens if he didn’t hit his target, Walker responded: “I’ll be

disappointed.

“Hopefully with a bit of luck, I’ll be a surprise package and be up there with the other goalscorers at the club.”

Like the rest of the squad, Walker was back training having had a summer off spending time with his family.

Now, he is pleased to be back, gearing up for the big kick-off.

“It was good to blow the cobwebs out,” he explained.

“The boys all look really fit and it’s great to back.

“We’re all getting ready for the Yeovil game, which will be tough, and it’s all about progressing.

“We want to get there gradually because we all want to be ready for that first game.”

In the off-season, Walker agreed to sign a new deal before he went away for his break in what turned out to be a turbulent summer for the Magpies.

He explained: “I had agreed to sign on before the end of the season but the manager wanted it to stay quiet.

“We’ve lost a few players and we all wish them well.

“Players like Charlie (Davis) and Bradley (Tarbuck) were good for us and they will be missed.

“But they have been replaced and the new boys are looking great.

“There’s a couple of people already shining so we will see how it goes.”
