FORMER Magpies’ midfielder Franklyn Clarke said his dreams have come true after signing his first professional deal for National League outfit York City.
The 23-year-old has signed a one-year contract with the option of a further year.
The deal comes just three weeks after Clarke became a father for the first time in what has been an eventful month for the midfielder.
With the new club has come an increased workload but he is relishing the opportunity.
Talking to Echosport, Clarke said: “I’m over the moon. It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do and to achieve that professional contract is a dream come true.
“I know that the hard work starts now.”
Clarke has been in contact with Dorchester over the summer and feels the coaching staff have developed him as a player.
He added: “I spoke to Mark (Jermyn), Heathy (Stuart Heath) and Critts (Nick Crittenden) just to say thank you for what they have done.
“I can’t speak highly enough of them and everyone at the club.
“It was a step up for me. It was a harder level and it brought the best out in me.
“Everything is a lot more professional at Dorchester than any club I had been at before.”
Clarke is one of a number of players that left the Avenue over the summer, but he believes that Dorchester will continue to improve.
“With the coaches that they have, they only accept winners into the team,” he explained. “They will get a good team spirit going, kick on and build momentum.
“Mark seems to have made a few good signings and they will work hard for him. Who knows what could happen?”
Clarke may have only spent four months at the club but he made a huge impact and it comes as no surprise to find out what his highlight from his time was.
“Easily Boxing Day,” he answered quickly. “Scoring on my debut against Weymouth was unbelievable. I will never forget that.”
Without Clarke, Dorchester take on Portsmouth Development tomorrow at the Avenue, as they continue their pre-season (3pm).
