BRENDON King believes the Terras are in a much stronger position than they were 12 months ago.
After his appointment as manager in June 2011, King was forced to build a squad from scratch.
Fast forward a year, and with the majority of last season’s team staying put and being joined by experienced additions in form of ex-Dorchester Town duo Danny Clay and Barry McConnell, King is confident heading into the new campaign.
Weymouth’s boss, who also hopes to clinch the signing of an unnamed midfielder this evening, said: “Compared to this stage last year, in terms of what we had then and what we’ve got now, things are looking a lot more positive. Hopefully it bodes well for the new season.
“We are still in talks with a couple of other players and if we can get the ones we are after then, on paper, we will have put together a decent squad.
“And we will certainly need a decent squad as I think the league will be a lot stronger this season – it will be a lot more competitive.”
Weymouth, who finished 17th in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division last term, begin their pre-season friendlies with a trip to Portland United on Saturday, July 21.
