CADBURY HEATH 1 BRIDPORT 0

BRIDPORT pushed high-flying Cadbury Heath to the limit but came away from Springfield empty-handed.

With the Heathens having hammered Buckland Athletic 6-1 last time out, many Bees’ fans feared the worst at the weekend but their side more than matched the league leaders and were perhaps unfortunate not to grab a point.

Bridport boss Trevor Senior, whose side now lie 11th in the Toolstation Western Premier Division, said: “It was a vastly improved performance from the week before against Winterbourne United.

“They scored midway through the first half at the third or fourth attempt after we had given the ball away in midfield but in the last 15 minutes before the break we were unlucky not to draw level.

“Ryan Dovell had a shot fly just wide of a post and very nearly forced in a long throw-in, and there were three or four other chances as well with Ben Clarke just miscuing one which on another day he might have done better with.

“Sam Filkins did tip one shot over the bar at the other end but apart from that he didn’t have much else to do.

“Playing down the slope in the second half we showed plenty of endeavour but unfortunately we failed to test their keeper enough.

“They then nearly grabbed another one on the break but overall considering their victory over Buckland the previous week, I thought we acquitted ourselves well. It was just a shame we came away with nothing to show for it.”

The defeat stretches the Bees’ winless streak to five games in all competitions – a trend they will hope to buck tomorrow night when they entertain Bishop Sutton at St Mary’s Field (7.45pm).
