STREET 4

BRIDPORT proved no matched for high-flying Street at St Mary’s Field as they were smashed for four in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.

The Bees got off to a terrible start on Good Friday as Josh Wadham’s corner was swung in and headed into the net by Street’s David O’Hare after just three minutes.

And just eight minutes later, the Cobblers put themselves two up.

Striker Steve Murray applied a clever finish after racing onto a long ball following a defensive lapse by the Bees.

The away side continued to threaten as O’Hare went close and Ross McErlain was not too far away after striking a free-kick on the half hour mark.

But Street did manage to get their third of the afternoon on 53 minutes.

Another corner delivered by Wadham this time found captain Ben Amghar, whose effort flicked off Murray and into the net.

Three then became four as O’Hare continued to cause problems, he finished well after a clever flick by the visitors in an attacking area to wrap up a comfortable three points.

“They were decent, to be fair,” said Bridport boss Adam Fricker.

“I think the only thing that disappointed us really was that they didn’t carve us open, it was just a lack of concentration for the goals really.

“But take nothing away from them. They are an excellent side and they played some great football at times. You can see why they are second in the league, they are just solid throughout.

“It shows what we need to do to compete more regularly at that level.”

Asked what the message was to his players after, Fricker, whose side host Clevedon Town at St Mary’s Field on Monday (3pm), replied: “I just said to them we have Clevedon, Brislington and Bitton left and they are three winnable games.

“I stressed that I don’t want the season to fizzle out and we can’t just go through the motions in these last three games. We would love to go unbeaten for the last three.”

Bees: Hutchings, Regan, Buckler (Hill 65), Bailey, Condliffe, Symes, Martin (Hayter 85), Andrews, Peach (Latas 46), Butcher.
