WESTLAND SPORTS 3

DORCHESTER SPORTS 1

DORCHESTER Sports were left disappointed after taking the lead at Westland Sports but poor decision making and sloppy passing allowed the hosts to take all three points with a 3-1 victory in the Dorset Premier League.

In the first half, Dorchester could have been out of sight as they ran riot with quick attacking play. They duly took the lead when Jason Read’s long-range effort flew into the top corner.

Brandon Heal and Will Turland both had good chances but both were well saved and Gareth Will could not find Turland with Sports two-on-one bearing down on the Westland goal.

The visitors had to settle for a one goal lead at half-time but Dorchester could not maintain their lead as Westland took advantage.

Dorchester lost the ball in the middle of the park and allowed Westland to break to make it 1-1 on the hour.

Dan Peart then came off injured with Cormac Lochrie coming on to replace him, but just minutes after Lochrie took down Leo Hayward in the box and the penalty was put past goalkeeper Sam Turner who was struggling to walk through injury.

And Westland wrapped up the game on the counter late on to seal the points and cement a disappointing collapse from Ashley James’ men.

Speaking to Echosport, Sports’ boss James said: “It’s disappointing. The first half was good. We took the lead and didn’t look in any real danger.

“The second half was a complete difference, they turned it on and we didn’t.

“Mistakes happened defensively that cost us the game in the end.

“We could have been two or three up but poor passing and decision making cost us.

But James gave credit to Westland, who now sit two points behind Dorchester with a game in hand.

He said: “Westland are a good side. They only conceded four goals before Saturday.

“They’ve obviously come out with a point to prove and we’ve been a bit too comfortable at half-time.

“Going forward they were far too good for us and we gave the ball away in key areas which isn’t like us.

“When we got into the final third the final pass was just off. It’s happened on a couple of occasions now where we’ve gone into the break 1-0 up and it should’ve been more but we’ve been pegged back.”
