TOM Bearwish lamented Portland not taking their chances as they played through a goalless draw against Brockenhurst in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division on Saturday.

Portland were under a lot of pressure in the first half but improved hugely in the second, with Bearwish creating some good chances for his side and proving a real threat.

Bearwish said: "The lads worked hard, just nothing really fell to us.

"We had the chances we just could not put them away really.

"We got into the positions, we just did not really take our chances. We created a lot but the lads played well really.

Bearwish was happier with the performance of the Blues in the second half as they improved and had chances with Bearwish prompting some great saves from Luke Deacon in the Brockenhurst goal.

Bearwish said: "We battled hard in the second half, we changed the formation and made a few changes. We just kept the ball well.

The end of the match became heated as Shaun Bessant received a straight red card for a late tackle on Will Tickle.

Bearwish said: "It was just that a few decisions went against us, everyone got a bit upset really."

When asked how he approaches such situations Bearwish said: "I just try and stay out of it, just play your game and do not get involved in it."

Evaluating his own performance in the match, Bearwish said: It is a team game but I thought I kept the ball well, created a lot, I could have scored a couple but I just did not score."

When asked if it was frustrating coming up against a keeper who was having a good game and the Portland forward admitted there was an added competition between him and Deacon.

Bearwish explained: "I know him personally, he does a scholarship with me at Eastleigh, there was a bit of a competition between us both but he came out on top today didn't he."
