BLACKFIELD & LANGLEY 5

PORTLAND United suffered a heavy defeat after taking an early lead against high-flying Blackfield & Langley in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division.
Lewis Clarke’s early effort for the Blues was overrun by goals from Franklyn Clarke, Sam Griffin, Sami Mahkloufi, and a brace from Craig McAllister for the Watersiders.
The hosts started strongly and within seven minutes, Clarke struck from Ashley Smith’s low cross to give them the lead.
However, the lead would not last long as seven minutes later Clarke struck from the spot to draw the away side level.
Late on in the first half, the visitors took the lead through Griffin.
Portland battled through to the end of the first half but could not muster an equaliser as they went in behind at half-time.
Another penalty saw Mahkloufi put space between the two sides 20 minutes into the second half.
A late brace from McAllister, with the last goal coming in injury time widened the scoreline further for the away side.
Portland may feel hard done by with the scoreline not reflecting the match but remain 14th in the table.
Their opponents continue in their hunt for the top spot and, sit six points behind leaders Andover with three games in hand.
Portland interim-manager Gary Bailey said: “They scored two late goals which has really put a lopsided spin on what was a fairly competitive game.
“If you are going to take anything out of these games against the top sides then you have got to have a bit of luck going your way as well and on the night that did not run for us.”
Portland travel to Hamble Club tonight (8pm).
Meanwhile, Wimborne won the Dorset Senior Cup on Tuesday night with an emphatic 7-0 win over Shaftesbury.
