DORCHESTER Town boss Phil Simkin has reassured fans that he and assistant Stuart Heath will be doing everything they can to make things work at the club in light of next term’s reduced playing budget.

Simkin told Echosport he is determined to make the club a success under the new ownership structure but admitted the county town side are likely to find it very hard to build on what they achieved last season.

The Magpies’ manager says he will use the many contacts he has made in the game over the last 40 years and more to find a way through the next few months and beyond.

He will have £1,750 a week to spend on players’ wages during the 2013/14 season, significantly down on last season as the club looks to live within its means with the Community Trust now joint majority shareholders alongside Shaun Hearn.

“Me and Stuart look upon it as a challenge and we fully understand the reason for it,” said Simkin.

“Even though we find it uncomfortable we will do everything we can in our power to make it work and make the club as successful as possible under the trust.

“The budget figure did come as a shock and I hope the supporters realise what a difficult job Stuart and I have got.

“I want to reassure everyone that we will be doing everything we can to make it work.

“It’s a difficult figure to work with for the level we are at but I’m going to try and call in any favours I am owed and use every contact I’ve made in my 40 years in the game.

“I’m going to do everything I can for the club to be a success.

“Obviously, after last season we were all hoping we could push on from there but, unfortunately, the reality is that might not be the case.

“We may well have a really good season and I’m hoping that we do, but we are going to be missing one or two key players and it just depends how badly we miss them.

“The fans need to understand that we may not be able to produce what we produced last season.

“It may well be that to survive in Conference South is our aim next season rather than anything else.”

Simkin has given his backing to the trust and the way they are trying to take the club forward.

He added: “The people in the trust are honest and genuine and care about the club and so do I.

“They are doing everything they can to make sure everything runs smoothly.

“We’ve been put in the picture by the trust and they haven’t pulled any punches.

“We know exactly where we stand and the supporters do and that’s important to me.

“I have never been in this situation before but I feel positive about it.

“I will make a couple of phone calls to colleagues that might have dealt with something like this then Stuart and I will sit down and go through everything and formulate something to go forward with.”
