WARREN Byerley is eager to make the most of his time back at the Avenue and is hoping his spell on loan will profit both him and the Magpies.

The Poole striker has returned to Dor-chester Town for his fourth stint with the county town club 11 years after making his debut as a teenager.

Byerley is looking forward to testing himself at Conference South level again and is set to feature against Dover Athletic on Saturday some 14 months since he last pulled on a Dorchester shirt.

The Magpies’ squad may have changed quite dramatically from his previous spell at the club, but with the likes of Jamie Gleeson and Mark Jermyn still around, and Phil Simkin in the dugout, it shouldn’t take Byerley long to get reacquainted.

And he is keen for the loan, which runs for a month initially, to work on a couple of levels.

“I’m quite excited about it,” he told Echosport. “I haven’t been playing much over the last month so it will be good to get some game time.

“I think it will be good for both of us. I need games and Dorchester are in a sticky patch, so we can help each other out.

“I know quite a few of the lads and I live locally which always helps.

“Hopefully I can score a few goals and see if I can help save the club from the drop.”

Byerley, who played under Simkin at Hamworthy United, has remained good friends with the Dorchester boss throughout his career.

And the former Weymouth front man, 28, is glad to be linking up with Simkin yet again.

“I speak to Phil socially once or twice a month and I’ve known him for quite a few years,” added Byerley, who has scored 11 goals in 53 games for the Magpies.

“He is a friend outside of football and he always sees how I’m getting on.

“Phil has always been there for me when I’ve been in a sticky patch in my career.

“I’ve had a couple of bad knee injuries and been a bit down, and with things like that he’s always been on the other end of the phone.

“He’s a good person to have to talk to.”

Meanwhile, Adrienne Shepherd is the Magpies’ new sports therapist and will be joining the club just in time for Saturday’s match against Dover.

She arrives at the Avenue having previously worked with Poole Town and AFC Bournemouth.
