TREVOR Senior would love his Bridport side to “finish the season with a flourish”, starting today against the team who brushed them aside on Boxing Day.

The Bees head to Somerset for a meeting with Street at The Tannery (1pm) a little more than three months after losing the reverse fixture in West Dorset 5-2.

Bridport have only won twice in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division since then, underlining just how tough the second half of the season has been for Senior’s troops.

Saying that, Street’s form of late hasn’t been the greatest – they haven’t won in four and are on a run of three straight defeats.

Reflecting on the Boxing Day defeat and what his hopes are for the rest of the campaign, St Mary’s Field boss Senior told Echosport: “We want to put on a better performance than we did against Street before.

“We conceded some sloppy goals the last time we played them. It was 4-1 at half-time and pretty much all over at that stage.

“Our games against Street are usually quite high scoring and that’s what happened on Boxing Day. The lads want to put that right and I hope they’ve got a bit of confidence back after beating Bishop Sutton last weekend.

“We’ve got Gillingham after Street and they are two teams around us in the table. It’s important we pick up points from the next two games and finish the season with a flourish.”

Bridport midfielder Sean Stewart serves the first of a two-match suspension for an accumulation of yellow cards.

That means he will also miss the game at Gillingham Town on Easter Monday (1pm), while work commitments keeps Chris Senior out of both as well.

Jamie Filkins played his last game for the Bees this term against Bishop Sutton, but he has told Senior he will be back for pre-season training in the summer after returning from travelling.

Senior is therefore set to dip into the reserves to bulk up his squad for this afternoon’s clash.

He added: “I went to watch the reserves on Tuesday night and there were one or two that stood out,” he added. “I’m hoping to bring Dan Peart and Rhys Hayter into the squad, and Tristan Gale and Gary Bulman have been playing quite well.”

Bridport, in 14th position, sit two places and three points behind Street in the table with a game in hand on their Good Friday opponents.
