TRAINER Helen Nelmes held a National Hunt information day at her Warmwell yard, in a bid to indicate that owning a race horse could never be easier.

The stables, at Warmwell, offered information packs to potential owners throughout the day, received a good amount of interest from the event and Nelmes may be able to put together syndicates to help get some of her charges on track.

Speaking about the day, she told Echosport: “It was good and there were a few people who were quite shocked at how reasonably you could be part of owning a race horse.

“There has been feedback on two of the horses that we had for sale. Now all we have to do is fill those syndicates and we can get the horses running in the syndicates’ names.

“There are lots of ways that you can be a racehorse owner, without it costing an absolute arm and a leg.

“Anyone who was interested went off with an information pack which tells them everything and people can always chat to me about different ways of doing it. You don’t have to buy a horse, you can lease a horse for a start.

“There are so many different ways of doing it, from being a race horse owner to a member of the Racing Club which is just £50 a month. There is a big variety and people don’t realise that.”

And while Nelmes’ yard is out of season for the summer, she insists there are exciting prospects awaiting her when the ground softens.

“Our horses are just ticking away at the moment,” she added.

“I don’t have any summer horses to run on this ground now.

“But as soon as the season starts Kalmbeforethestorm, The Clyda Rover and the others will be back out.

“It’s About Time will be able to do a lot more next season because he was only a baby last season.

“We have a nice four-year-old that’s new and a very nice chestnut horse by Desert King that isn’t even named yet too, we are possibly trying to get a syndicate together for them.”
