LARGE crowds attended the two opening events of the season at Wiscombe Park during the weekend meeting organised by the Woolbridge Motor Club.

Slippery track conditions during the morning practice runs soon began to improve with the passage of cars suggesting that the afternoon competitive runs would be a good deal quicker, as was the case.

Weymouth father and son duo, Graham and Geoff Blake continue to campaign their rapid Vauxhall powered Westfield SEi sports car. Blake senior climbed the 900m course in 45.90 seconds on his first official run with Geoff taking the lead with a 43.44 second climb. With a time in the bank and the track offering more, grip the climbs saw most drivers improve their initial efforts.

This was also the case for Blake senior when he shaved seven hundredths of a second from his time leading to expectations that Geoff could make a larger improvement.

Unfortunately those expectations were not to be realised when Geoff left the track and paid a visit to the rhododendrons just after the right hand bend at the gate but his first run time was quick enough to secure a class victory.

Blake was uninjured in the incident but the car required work through the night to return it to condition fit for competition the next day.

Disappointingly, another on track incident the following day brought their event to an end.
