A LACK of venues due to school open days meant a lot of postponed Weymouth & District League matches this week but here is a round-up of those that that did take place.

Budmouth B have a slender lead at the top of Division One after the second round of matches.

They beat Red Triangle on Portland 26-11 with Jamie Blair winning all three of his matches to maintain his 100 per cent start to the season.

Derek Dawson scored seven points for Red Triangle including inflicting a first loss of the season on highly-rated Will Jolliffe.

Budmouth A sit in second after their winning 20-18 trip to Shipton Gorge A. Moses Lewis also maintained his 100 per cent start to the season and teamed up with Brad Burroughs to win the deciding doubles 3-1 after the singles matches ended at 17-17.

Terry Whitworth hit eight points for Shipton with Miranda Edwardes contributing five and Gil Roberts four.

Colliton X picked up their first win with a 24-14 victory over Springfield B despite Springfield’s Chris Whitefield picking up a maximum nine points.

Raj Lehal top scored for Colliton with eight points, Tony Loveridge seven and Andy Crouch six.

All Saints top Division Two after a close 22-18 win over newly-promoted Shipton Gorge C.

Ben Hannigan, who had also travelled to Shipton the previous night with Budmouth A, top scored for the students with the full nine points for the loss of only two sets.

Luke Dadds chipped in with six points and Hector Knight four. Dave Poole was Shipton’s top scorer with a respectable seven.

Wyke D are only a point above Pilgrims A now after losing 22-16 to them at the Reynolds Institute.

Tony Dobbs hit the maximum nine points for Wyke but it was not enough to stop Pilgrims closing the match out before the doubles.

John Hunnisett scored seven points for Pilgrims with Alun Chapple and Stuart Walden both picking up six.

There was only one match in Division Three and this saw STEPS M secure their second successive convincing win of the season. They beat the newly-formed Wey Valley Tennis Centre team 27-7.

Martin Singer scored the full nine points for STEPS but the ever improving and highly impressive Jess Moggeridge took six of Wey Valley’s seven points including a classic against Jonah Corren (8).

They played an opening match epic five-setter which Moggeridge clinched 15-13 in the decider.
