STRIKER Brandon Goodship expressed his desire for goals in a Terras’ shirt and is looking to live up to the expectations placed on him.

Since penning a one-year contract at the Bob Lucas Stadium following his release from Yeovil Town in May, the talented frontman has been given glowing references from members of the Weymouth set-up.

Assistant-manager Paul Maitland described the 22-year-old as a “proper goalscorer” while midfielder Charlie Davis also told Echosport that Goodship is “the best finisher I have ever played with”.

Asked about the expectancy put on him to deliver goals, the former Cherries’ youngster said: “It is something you sort of thrive under but I always think the only pressure you play under is what you put on yourself.

“I expect to score a lot of goals. In stepping down a few leagues, I want to be scoring goals and I think everyone is well within their right to say they expect that from me.

“Weymouth is a massive club and I was aware of that before coming but I want to score goals for myself, not just for the club.

“I want to help both parties and, if I do score goals, it will benefit both. That’s my desire and I think it will happen.”

Maitland also described the striker as having “ambition in the game” and Goodship admitted he still has aspirations to play at a higher level.

“There are people watching at most games up and down the country, no matter what league you are in. You are always going to be watched, it’s just a case of whether you impress people enough to move higher,” he added.

“I feel that’s not just the case for me, I feel that everyone that plays for Weymouth is going to want to do the same.”

Quizzed on what Weymouth fans can expect to see from him, Goodship claimed: “I like to play as a 10, get in pockets, get on the ball and make things happen.

“I can play out wide as well but I am happy to play wherever the manager wants me to play, I will do my best for the team and see where it takes us.”
