WEYMOUTH Rowing Club sent two crews to Langstone where the ladies’ crew took part in the Langstone Regatta on the Saturday and on the Sunday the men’s crew raced in the Round Hayling Island endurance row.

The ladies’ crew had to work hard with one crew taking part in the ladies’ A, ladies’ B and vets’ races. Two crew members also took part in the mixed race.

Overall, Weymouth came a credible fourth. This now puts Weymouth second to Bridport in the Jurassic League.

Bridport’s own regatta takes place next weekend with Weymouth sending a full crew complement and hoping to gain first place back again.

The men’s crew faced tough conditions in their Round Hayling Island endurance race which was shortened and raced in reverse to avoid the worst of the Solent’s sea conditions. A variety of rowing boats took part on the 15.37km course.

Weymouth were the first boat across the finish with Langstone two minutes behind.

With a time of 1hr 30 mins 02 seconds, Weymouth won the Pilot gig class.

One crew member said: “The wind and the tide was with us on the way back so we could up the rate and settle in to a 10.2kph average.”
