THEATRE Evening took a victory at the Men’s Open at Bratten Down in his last race of the season.

Trained by Harriet Brown at Mappowder he was partnered by Rex Dingle and was ridden prominently in a five-runner race.

He jumped boldly in front until he was headed at the 14th fence by the favourite Mont Choisy, ridden by Regan Pallas.

He chased that rival all of the way afterwards and when Mont Choisy overjumped the second last and fell he found himself in front again.

He then held off the attentions of his two remaining pursuers on the long run in at Bratton to win by half a length in a driving finish.

Evening had shown an improvement in his form following several disappointing runs earlier in 2018 and he was a good second at the final Larkhill meeting in May when partnered by George Hiscock for the first time and after trying to make all the running he was only caught on the run in by Presenting Beara, ridden by Philip York.

Bought by Harriet’s sister Charlotte from previous owner Frances Bishop he has enjoyed racing from the front and his bold style of jumping has stood him in good stead particularly on a fast surface.

Harriet was delighted to give Dingle a winner as this was his final point-to-point ride before he becomes a conditional jockey with Mosterton National Hunt trainer Anthony Honeyball.
