BRITANNIA boss George Eley has warned his side to expect a stiff examination tomorrow when Weyline FC pay a visit to the Piggery in the Weymouth Sunday League Premier-ship (10.30am).

Both teams enjoyed impressive victories in their opening games last week with the Brit overwhelming the Railway Tavern and Weyline snatching a hard-fought win over pre-season title favourites Tuatara.

And Eley is under no illusions about the scale of the task ahead. He said: “Weyline are effectively the Window-Man side of last season so we know they have got a quality side.

“They certainly raised a few eyebrows with their win over T-Bar so it looks as though they will be competitive again this year. That said, we have got players right across the mid- field, as well as up top, who like to get among the goals and our defence is looking meaner than ever.

“I would not say that this game will have any bearing on the race for the title but it will certainly give an early marker of the strength of each side.”

Eley has somewhat of a selection headache this weekend as he has a fully fit squad to choose from.

Meanwhile, in the Championship, Quayside will no doubt want to bounce straight back from last week’s defeat at the Alex when they take on SAS at the Marsh.

The ex-Premiership side will be boosted by the returns of player-manager Bobby Darch, Simon Shapcott, Rob Maxted and Dan Magee, while Adam Anstey, Matt Brown, Stuart Crane, Leighton Hanson and Darren Long will all miss out. Nick Gregg will continue between the posts in the absence of Tony Wyatt.

Darch, who was on holiday last weekend, said: “By all accounts everyone tried really hard last week but it was just one of those days.

“It was a disappointing defeat and the aim tomorrow is to tighten up the defence and get back on track. We may also have a major new signing on board, which if it comes off, would no doubt give us a big boost.”
