KATH Desmond and Barry Patterson landed three titles apiece at Moonfleet’s annual club competitions.

The duo were in sparkling form throughout and joined forces to dominate the mixed pairs final, winning 29-2 against June Searle and John Crabb.

Desmond also scooped the ladies’ singles and the veteran singles title.

In the former, Desmond shaded the first 10 ends before moving up the gears to claim a 21-14 victory, while in the latter, she recovered from 10-3 behind against Irene Martindill to level at 16-all after 21 ends.

There was still nothing to choose between the two by the 25th end, until Desmond held her nerve to card a 21-19 triumph.

Patterson meanwhile bagged his second title alongside Mike Goddard in the men’s pairs, with the deadly duo proving too strong for Colin Poulter and StJ Corben in a 20-11 win.

His third trophy came in the men’s triples, where he teamed up with Goddard and Eddie Smith.

The trio led 16-13 with only two ends remaining and survived a late surge from Keith Wyman, Pete Read and skip Alf Sawkins to see out the tie, 17-16.

The men’s crown went to Dave Smith, who then secured a double by winning the generation pairs final with son Marcus.

The Smiths took a commanding 23-4 lead against Arthur and Dennis Monelle, and although the Monelles fought back, it was not enough to prevent a 27-12 loss.

Marcus Smith matched his dad’s achievements by collecting his second trophy – defeating Eddie Smith 21-15 in the under-18 singles in yet another family affair.

Having lost to Desmond in the ladies’ showpiece, Martindill grabbed consolation in the form of two titles.

She paired up with Margaret Crawford to defeat Sheila Baker and Searle 23-19 in the ladies’ pairs, before joining forces with Rose Giles to beat Mary Bull and Sue Paull 15-14 in the ladies’ handicap pairs.

Giles then skipped Liz Williams and Heather Gillingham to glory in the ladies’ drawn triples, running out 23-9 victors against Liz Laidlaw, Judy Why and June Evans.

Keith Wyman also helped himself to a couple of prizes, beating Ray Walbridge 21-5 in the men’s veteran singles and linking up with Shirley Wyman to land the two-wood drawn pairs – getting the better of Lloyd Starkey and Goddard, 17-4.

Keith Wyman was unable to make it a treble though, as he and Pete White fell at the hands of Chris Dean and Chris Cook, 22-14, in the men’s handicap pairs final.

Martin Puckett defeated Cook 21-6 in the under-25 singles while Brandon King, fresh from victory in the School of Excellence, bagged the under-14 crown with a 15-5 success against Ryan Nash.

Elsewhere, the visually impaired competition was won by Ken Bowring, with Mary Tidwell prevailing in the Stephen Reed Cup for the disabled.
