CONCORD RANGERS 1 MAGPIES 0

DORCHESTER Town suffered spot-kick agony yet again on Saturday as the hosts took full advantage of Ben Watson’s late penalty miss at the Aspect Arena.

The Magpies’ hopes of landing a first three points of the season looked a distinct possibility when new loan signing Aristide Bassele was brought down in the Concord box with just 10 minutes left.

Watson connected cleanly with the ball but his effort clattered against the bar – six minutes later Concord captain Steve King netted the winner at the other end.

With Farnborough winning, Dorchester, who have also conceded four penalties themselves this season, sit bottom of the Skrill South table with just a solitary point – from the draw at Gosport – to their name.

For the Beachboys of Concord it was a first-ever home victory at Conference South level and one that could well have been more convincing had it not been for Alan Walker-Harris in the Magpies’ goal.

He took all the plaudits for a number of high-class saves that kept Concord at bay, starting in the first half when denying Sam Higgins.

Going straight into the starting line-up following his move from Bournemouth, striker Bassele then forced Rangers’ keeper Jamie Butler into action with a well-struck volley.

Walker-Harris was at it again on the stroke of half-time, meeting a Higgins shot with a strong right hand then getting up in no time to catch a Sam Collins volley.

The hosts upped the pressure in the second half with substitute Reece Harris causing problems.

He flashed two efforts just wide and also had a third acrobatically saved by the superb Walker-Harris.

Higgins was then foiled again before Concord came agonisingly close to taking the lead when a Collins free-kick was met by the head of Jason Hallett only for Walker-Harris to get down well to save.

The county town side were forced into a substitution with around a quarter of the match to go when Jamie Gleeson took a bang to his shoulder.

There was perhaps a sign of Watson’s bad luck to come when the striker put the ball in the back of the net only to be flagged offside.

But Dorchester were gifted the chance of putting that right when Bassele was bundled over and the referee showed no hesitation in pointing to the spot.

However, Watson smashed the ball against the woodwork and six minutes from the end, a Collins set-piece was headed back across goal by James White and King netted.

Magpies’ boss Phil Simkin threw on Jamie Beasley in a last-ditch attempt to salvage a point but the Concord defence stood firm and saw out the rest of the game.
