Dorchester duo Jason Matthews and Nathan Walker were blown away by the euphoric scenes following Sunday’s FA Cup victory over Plymouth Argyle.

Matthews said: “It was without doubt one of my best days in football. To upset a big club like Plymouth in front of such a big crowd on our home ground was incredible and the feeling at the final whistle was just unbelievable.

“All we wanted to do first and foremost was give a good account of ourselves and by the end I thought we probably deserved it.

“The atmosphere created by the fans was extra special and to the club this means everything.

“It will help put it on more of a solid financial footing and it gives it something to build off.

“It is a great little club and it is a just reward for all those that work so very hard behind the scenes.”

Walker added: “Everyone was on top of their game and at the end I was just speechless.

“It was by far the best performance from a Dorchester side that I have ever played in and it is the highlight of my career so far.

“Not many people get the chance to play in an FA Cup first round tie in front of 3,000 people but the fact we also went on to win was just incredible.

“The crowd were amazing and I am just so pleased for everyone involved.”

Matthews also gave special praise to boss Phil Simkin. He added: “I cannot speak highly enough of him. I was at my lowest ebb in a football sense last year with the way I was treated but Phil has since restored my faith. Both him and Stuart Heath are doing a fantastic job.”
