MICKY Hubbard is determined to show what he can do on the pitch after a frustrating start to his Dorchester Town career.

The 27-year-old admits things have been “a bit up and down” since his arrival last month as manager Graham Kemp’s second signing for the club.

He came off the bench to help set up the winning goal against Hungerford, but the midfielder was cup-tied for the FA Cup success at Abingdon.

Hubbard then made his full debut for Dorch-ester away to Cirencester on Tuesday night, however, that ended in a disastrous 6-1 hammering.

And while the former Poole and Wimborne playmaker is eager for things to settle down on the pitch, he is also keen for the same to happen off it.

“Things have been alright so far but being cup-tied has meant I’ve been in and out of the side,” he told Echosport.

“It’s been a bit up and down and I haven’t done too great on the pitch at times.

“I came off the bench in the Hungerford game and was involved in the goal, which was quite nice, but then I had to sit out the cup match on Saturday.

“I started the Cirencester game on Tuesday but it’s really frustrating because when you come in and lose 6-1 it feels a bit like your fault.

“But as a team we didn’t do what we were supposed to and I think we’ve all got to put our hands up.

“It has not been the best of starts on the pitch but training has gone really well and the club have made me feel really welcome, I’ve just got to get stuck in now and show what I can do.”

He continued: “I was at Poole for four or five years and Wimborne for a couple as well so it’s not like I’ve moved clubs every season.

“But I’d like to settle down somewhere and I’ve moved into a new home so I’m trying to balance that with work and football.”

Hubbard, a former youth player at Bournemouth, said his decision to follow Kemp from Hamworthy United was an easy one to make.

“I started pre-season at Poole but with them having quite a big squad I dual registered with Hamworthy United to get some games,” he added.

“Graham got the job at Dorchester and that made my decision to move easier with him there.

“I know most of the lads and have played with a lot of them before so it was a no-brainer to go.”

*Dorchester will host either Portland United or Parley Sports in the second round of the Dorset Senior Cup on Tuesday, October 28, while the Terras have been drawn at home against Cranborne on the same date.

Meanwhile, the Terras’ home league clash with Chesham is now on Tuesday, November 11 (7.45pm) due to the club’s involvement in the FA Cup.
