DORCHESTER Town’s search for a striker will go on after it emerged a deal to bring Dan Cann back to the Avenue couldn’t be struck.

The Magpies were unable to make Cann an offer without a trial period first – the player has since opted to join Southern League Division One South & West side Winchester City.

First-team coach Stuart Heath has also said the Dorchester squad is “three-quarters complete” and they are still looking to bring in “between three and five” players in the coming weeks.

“We couldn’t sort something out with Dan so I think he’s going to Winchester,” said Heath. “But things like that happen in pre-season.

“Players sometimes flit around clubs during pre-season and we will be looking at other people.

“Our squad is three-quarters complete and we’ll be looking at bringing in between three and five players to build it up.

“We’ve got a good idea of who we want and in what positions. We just need to make sure we recruit the right players.

“We’re very happy with what we’ve got and do feel we have got a good balance of experience and promising youngsters.”

A trip to St Mary’s Field to face a Bridport side that beat Patchway Town 8-1 last Saturday awaits the Magpies tonight (7.45pm).

After their goalless draw against Weymouth two days earlier, the Bees found their scoring touch at the weekend.

Jamie Symes netted a hat-trick, Warren Byerley bagged a brace and Tristan Gale, Tom Richardson and Chris Herbst all adding one each to the hosts’ tally.
