DEFENDER Chris Dillon is looking to get back up to speed over the next two weeks in a bid to help Dorchester Town continue their impressive league form.

The county town centre-half, who scooped a hat-trick of club awards in his first season with the Magpies last term, has been struggling with a groin strain picked up against Cambridge City earlier this month.

Having missed both FA Cup outings against Cirencester, the former Eastleigh man was named as an unused substitute against Stratford and Poole.

But, while he has remained in and around the squad, Dillon is not going to hurry back from the problem until he feels ready.

He told Echosport: “I have a little groin strain from the Cambridge game and it just hasn’t been right.

“I knew I wasn’t going to play on Tuesday. I think it was too soon for any sort of running but they named me on the bench just in case.

“I have been working hard with the physio trying to get back to fitness. I’m not going to rush back and you have to be careful with a groin problem because it can easily get reinjured.”

Asked about when he is likely to fully return to action, Dillon added: “A couple of weeks I reckon, maybe a week-and-a-half. I need to start running again and start testing it.

“I am busy going through the exercises and rehab and it’s looking good.”

Dillon also admitted he is enjoying operating as part of a back three under player-manager Mark Jermyn this term and insists the Magpies will only improve as the campaign develops.

“It’s a much more attacking formation so it’s fun and, although there is a lot of defending, there is a lot of attacking as well and you get to watch your attackers score goals, which we are doing this season.

“I think we are only going to get better.

“We go into every game thinking we can win it. If we can keep doing that we will be up there at the end of the season pushing for the playoffs and being up near the top of the league.”
