THE chance to get some much-needed game time under a manager he had already worked with meant an offer of a spell on loan at Wimborne was too good to turn down for Dorchester keeper Shane Murphy.

Simon Browne, the former Avenue favourite now in charge at Cuthbury, acquired the services of the 22-year-old late last week after first-choice stopper Jason Harvell picked up an ankle injury.

Murphy, who also played for Browne at Hamworthy United, went straight into the Wimborne side for their 2-0 defeat to Swindon Supermarine in Evo-Stik Southern Division One South & West.

“It all happened quite quickly,” said Murphy when telling Echosport how the loan came about. “I only found out there was a possibility of going on loan before training last Thursday.

“Jem (Dorchester boss Mark Jermyn) phoned me up and asked if I wanted to go out on loan and I was more than happy to.

“Games are in short supply for me at the moment and I’m not going to benefit anyone at Dorchester by sitting on the bench.

“Their keeper wasn’t available because of injury and with Simon Browne now there as manager it seemed the ideal situation to go and get a few games under my belt leading up to Christmas.

“Until Jason is ready to come back I’m standing in for him and unless the situation changes the plan is for me to be back at Dorchester for the Boxing Day game against Weymouth.”

Commenting further on working with Browne again, he added: “I’d spoken to Jem about getting some games somewhere else and I worked with Simon at Hamworthy United after I’d been released by Bournemouth.

“Simon’s a nice guy and he knows a lot about the game, and he wants to play football the right way.

“I’m sure he will do a good job at Wimborne, and I think they are in a bit of a false position at the moment. I’m pretty confident they will be okay this season.”

Murphy’s loan deal does have a 24-hour recall clause attached to it.
