THE strength of Dorchester’s bench in recent weeks shows how healthy the county town squad is at the moment, according to boss Mark Jermyn.

Other than Ben Watson (unavailable) and Shane Murphy (on loan), Jermyn has a fully fit roster to choose from for tomorrow’s rearranged league game at Biggleswade (3pm).

That means the Magpies, like they did for the 2-0 defeat of King’s Lynn last weekend, will have plenty of experience among their substitutes at the Carlsberg Stadium.

Jermyn, Neil Martin, Nick Crittenden, Oakley Hanger and Jason Brookes made up the Magpies’ bench against the Linnets.

And it just so happened that Dorchester scored five minutes after Martin was introduced and then another after Jermyn came on.

“The result in the last game was one we’d been working towards,” said the Magpies’ chief. "We stayed strong in the first half, got the goal in the second half, and then kept the pressure on to get the second.

“We brought Neil on and went 1-0 up, and then I came on and we made it 2-0, and that’s something we haven’t been able to do this season.

“When you look at the benches we’ve had they have mostly been made up of youngsters. I’m not saying youngsters can’t change a game but with the squad as it is now we’ve got a mixture of young and old.

"For the first time in a long time we’ve been able to change personnel around and the squad is looking really healthy.”
