MARK Jermyn has urged Oakley Hanger to learn from his mistake which gave Chippenham a late penalty to level things up at 1-1 at the Avenue on Saturday.

Hanger, who was already cautioned at the time, conceded the spot-kick after he felled substitute Ollie Taylor just inside the area and Weymouth-based official Robert Dabbs awarded the spot-kick to ensure a dramatic finale.

Giving his views on the flashpoint, Jermyn said: “The lad went on the inside of Oakley and Oakley unfortunately stuck his leg out. It’s a learning curve for him.

“It’s easy to walk into the changing room and have a pop at somebody when they know it’s their fault.

“But from my point of view it’s a case of making sure Oakley understands and doesn’t do it again, it’s as simple as that.

“I spoke to him afterwards in front of the players as well. I have been in football for a little while now and I have made mistakes that have cost points but I haven’t cost us too many points over the years.

“That’s the thing the players have got to learn. Everybody is going to make a mistake over the season.”

Giving an overall assessment on the clash, he added: “I look at the whole game on Saturday and thought we did well.

“People will say ‘you chucked away two points’ and maybe they are right but I’m not going to dwell on the fact that we played second in the league and came away with a point.

“Credit to them (Chippenham), they kept on doing exactly what they were doing which was kicking it as far as they could.”
