MARK Jermyn believes Dorchester Town are “turning a corner” and is urging any stay-away fans to give his side another chance as they continue their pursuit of promotion.

The Magpies beat Cambridge City on Saturday to record successive 3-0 victories in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division and move to within two points of the play-off places.

It was only the third time this season that Jermyn’s men have played in front of a crowd of more than 400 at the Avenue – and the player-boss is eager for that to happen on a more regular basis.

Speaking after the game, Jermyn told supporters who might have drifted away from the club in recent months that things are now on the up.

“I think a lot of each and every one of my players and there’s not really anyone who has got a question mark over them at this point in the season,” he said.

“There’s nobody that we would take out at the moment, which is brilliant for me, and they love being here.

“It’s a settled camp and I think recent results really do show that they are working hard and there’s a lot of togetherness.”

Jermyn continued: “The football club is turning a corner.

“They’ve gone through a lot of hard times and, not that the good times are back, but we’re on the crest of a wave and we’re climbing again now.

“We’re looking at stepping forward now and that’s massively positive for all of us, the supporters as well.

“The ones that haven’t been down for a while I just urge them to come back and watch us.

“If they don’t like us that’s fine, but come and watch us and make a decision on how we’re playing now.

“I’m not saying it was great football against Cambridge but the result and the character and mentality of the players was there to see.

“When I came to the club things like that were the reason why people liked Dorchester so much, and I really think we’re getting back to that stage.

“We’ve got a young group and I really hope we can keep them together.

“I really want people to come and enjoy watching them.”

As for Saturday’s match, after a tough first half, Jermyn felt his men thoroughly deserved the three points given their display following the break.

“The first half was tricky for both teams and it’s not a pretty game to look back on by any means,” he said. “But I think it’s a tremendous result because they’re not a bad team by any means.

“I think we rode our luck in the first half with the golden opportunity they had but, having said that, their keeper has kept them in the game as well.

“It was a more dominant performance from us in the second half and the energy levels of Charlie Davis and Frankie Clarke were absolutely phenomenal.

“That was something Cambridge’s midfield couldn’t cope with and those two lads were the standout players for me.”
