MARK Jermyn has challenged Magpies’ midfielder Charlie Davis to consistently live up to his star potential.

The former AFC Bournemouth youngster, who Jermyn sought to bring to the Avenue from Poole Town last summer, produced an “outstanding” second-half display, according to his boss, in the 3-2 win at Bideford on Monday.

Over 90 minutes, Davis scored twice and whipped in a corner for Nathan Walker to score against the Robins at the Sports Ground.

“Certainly the one to be mentioned from that performance was Charlie Davis. His second-half performance was outstanding,” Jermyn told Echosport.

“Charlie is one of those players who we know has a lot of potential in him, it’s just getting the best out of him consistently.

“I don’t think Charlie would mind me saying it because he knows that himself.

“He knows he’s a good player but he needs to show it more weeks than not.

“This season he has done okay but, from what we think and with his ability, we think he could have done better.

“He has it all to do, like the rest of the players, who have a point to prove for the rest of the season now.”

Monday’s victory means the Magpies sit 12th in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division with 58 points.
