DORCHESTER Town manager Mark Jermyn issued another warning to his players ahead of tomorrow's trip to struggling Paulton Rovers (3pm), saying they are “playing for their shirts”.

After an inconsistent run of form, the boss is looking for his charges to step up and be counted with just five games to go this season.

He said: “We have not been consistent enough this season, so we want to make sure that we can get some momentum building heading into next season.

“Only a few players have been consistent throughout the season. If they think that this season is over, they are mistaken. They are playing for their shirts.

“We want to make sure this season does not peter out.”

The Magpies secured their first win in four games with a 3-2 win over lowly Bideford and manager expects the same sort of battle against the Rovers this weekend.

“It will be totally different from earlier in the season when we won 6-0,” warned the manager. “We are expecting a battle and they will be trying harder because they are in the relegation zone.

“They will be hard to break down and we need to make sure we are harder to break down as well.

“We know that the win is not a foregone conclusion. So we need to go there and win and make sure there is no complacency. Because that has hurt us this season.”

Charlie Davis was on top form for the Magpies in their victory over Bideford on Monday with two goals as well as an assist, and his manager is hoping more players can improve.

“A few more players need to step up,” he explained. “Everyone needs to pull together and be consistent.”

Jermyn has the luxury of only having two of his squad missing through injury. Matt Oldring will miss the trip with a knee injury as will Jake Smeeton who has a cut on his ankle.

Rovers go into the game having won just two of their last eight matches and sit 10 points from safety. The Magpies’ boss knows the perils that this predicament will create on his charges.

“We will have to respect them. We will try and stay organised in the first 25 minutes and then venture out looking for openings. We have five games left and I want three wins.”
