AMBITIOUS Charlie Davis has stated he does not want to spend the rest of his career at Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division level, and is hoping to progress as a Dorchester Town player.

The midfield maestro, who was hailed by manager Mark Jermyn for his “outstanding” second-half performance against Bideford on Monday, also insists the Avenue is “the perfect place to be for me” at present.

Quizzed by Echosport about how much get-up-and-go he had to play at a higher level, Davis, who scored twice and bagged an assist against the Robins last time out, said: “I am only 20 at the moment and this isn’t the league that I want to be in for the rest of my career by any stretch of the imagination.

“But, the best way to grow and get higher is by playing in a team that suits you.

“I think in Dorchester, with the way that the management get us to play and the way that we shape up, it suits me if I am on my game.

“At the moment it’s the perfect place to be for me, in my opinion.”

Davis is part of a group of promising young players in the Magpies’ squad who are eager to move the ball about with fluidity, and play their way out of trouble.

A style which, at times, has proved difficult on a tricky Avenue surface.

Asked whether he felt Dorchester were guilty of trying to play too much football at the Avenue, the former AFC Bournemouth youngster responded: “No, I’m a big believer in passing and playing your way out because of the way I was brought through the academy.

“Obviously there are different situations where you need to spin the ball into channels and things but lumping the ball up to a big man up front is something that I’d never do.

“If Dorchester just turned into that, that would be when I would look elsewhere.

“The team will get stronger the more and more we keep doing it (playing passing football). If we give up on what we believe in I think we will only go one way and you won’t know what you are doing, I just think we have got to stick with it.”
