MAGPIES’ midfielder Franklyn Clarke feels he has lessons to learn after Saturday’s sending off in his side’s 4-1 defeat at home to Kettering in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

After been given his marching orders for a push on Poppies’ midfielder Ben Stephens, Clarke knows he should not have reacted but still felt he was harshly treated.

Talking about the incident, he told Echosport: “I won the foul off of him and when I got up he slapped me on the cheek, I did the same to him and the referee came storming over and showed me a straight red card.

“He didn’t give the other lad (Stephens) nothing and I felt I was unlucky.

“It was just handbags and it wasn’t fair to not give him anything.

“But I’ve got to learn just to get on with it really.”

Clarke became an instant fan favourite after joining the club in December when he scored against Weymouth on his debut and is already looking forward to next season at the Avenue.

He said: Speaking to Mark (Jermyn, manager) he wants me here, we’ve been speaking for a while about next season.

“I like it here and it is a great club and it’s been good to me.

“I want us to progress and push on. Mark has said it is a young side and it is, we just need to get used to playing with each other and improve so we can be closer to those play-offs.”
