DORCHESTER Town player-manager Mark Jermyn said their 2-1 victory over Hayes & Yeading United was for Nathan Walker,

The striker suffered a serious neck injury that required him to go to hospital in an ambulance after 70 minutes of treatment on the pitch.

After the delay, his side rallied to score the winner through David Jerrard and delight their manager.

Asked about Walker’s health after the game, Jermyn said: “I’m confident it’s all precautionary.

“For the players to see one of their teammates on the floor like that is hard. I was happy to come back for another game, but the players showed a lot of character.

“The effort they put in in the last 20 minutes was on Nathan’s behalf.

“Nathan has been fantastic for this football club and hopefully the boys’ performance in the last 20 minutes is testimony to him.”

Speaking about his medical staff, Jermyn said: “Emma (Tonkin) and Neil (Mackie) were very composed throughout. He couldn’t have been in much better hands.”

At times, Dorchester had their backs against the wall and their manager was pleased to see his side sneak the victory.

He added: “It’s fantastic. If I’m honest, I would have been happy with a draw. It is great for the players to pull through.”

The Magpies are in cup action on Tuesday night (7.45pm) away to Salisbury.
