MAGPIES’ manager Mark Jermyn insists it is time to focus on their league campaign, rather than dwelling on their 10-0 cup defeat at Salisbury on Tuesday night.

The county town side return to league action looking for back-to-back victories in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, when they host Leamington at the Avenue tomorrow (3pm).

And with as many as eight changes expected from the League Cup debacle against the Whites, the Avenue boss is determined to draw a line under their latest result.

“It really was one game, so I am not going to read anything into it. I would ask the supporters and certainly the players to put it behind us,“ he told Echosport.

“It’s not going to define our season. Getting knocked out the cup hasn’t really got any legs in it for us.

He added: “Given the position we are in in the league and how many points we have collected, I am relatively happy, to be honest.

“Everybody behind the scenes, like the chairman, is relatively happy with the position we are in, given the size of our squad.”

Jermyn is hoping that Jake Smeeton (knock), Shane Murphy (thigh) and Nathan Walker (neck) will all be fit to feature.

Talking specifically about Walker, who needed to go to hospital after a nasty collision involving Murphy against Hayes & Yeading, the Avenue boss said: “He is just very stiff and hopefully it is just a case of getting through it.

“I am sure with Nathan it will be a case of taking a couple of painkillers, trying to loosen him up a bit, and hopefully he will be okay.”
