MAGPIES’ boss Mark Jermyn has issued a full statement to Echosport explaining his decision to step down as the Dorchester Town manager after Monday’s Ridgeway Derby against Weymouth.

The club legend, who recently played his 700th game for the county town side, will take charge of his last fixture with Nick Crittenden on Boxing Day. Assistant-manager Crittenden is also set to step aside.

The full statement is below:

“It is with regret that myself and Nick Crittenden handed in our notices on Wednesday, December 14.

“It was an extremely hard decision as this is a club which I feel very passionate about.

“When I left the club a few seasons back and was offered the opportunity to return as manager, it was not something I considered lightly, as the commitment is 24/7 and it was a job I wanted to do well. However, it was an opportunity that I could not turn down.

“When I returned we were fighting relegation but, in just a few months, we finished the league just below mid-table.

“The following season myself, Nick and Stuart (Heath) wanted to attract players that would take the club forward for the next few seasons.

“We wanted to sign bright young players with ambition, whilst having a senior balance within the team. I believe we played some great football last season and I certainly enjoyed watching the games.

“This season was to be about attracting some of the best local talent and improving on what we had built last season. However, at the start of the season we lost the park and ride service, which took a large portion from our already very modest budget.

“A few weeks ago I was asked to reduce the budget again with possible further cuts to come at the end of January 2017.

“This was a massive blow as a manager, when you and your coaching staff have worked hard to build a team to take the club forward.

“After much consideration, both myself and Nick have decided to step aside to remove ourselves from the budget and put the interests of the football club first in the hope that the team can stay together and secure their place in the league for next season.

“For the remaining games I ask the supporters to get down to the ground and back your team. The players will give everything they have but they need to be supported.

“At this point I would like to say a personal thank you to Nick and Stuart for their support and also Emma, Dodge and Neil for their contributions.

“I wish the players luck for the rest of the season and will be following them closely every week.

"Thank you to Matt Lucas (chairman) and the board for a great opportunity.

"And finally, thank you to the supporters of Dorchester Town FC. I hope that I have given back as much as you have given me in support over the years.

“Thank you. Jem”
