WEYMOUTH player-manager Jason Matthews insisted that Mark Jermyn “will take some replacing” at Dorchester Town.

The Terras’ boss, whose side drew 1-1 with the Magpies in the Boxing Day derby at the Avenue, also insisted he had the “utmost respect” for his former team-mate, as the former Magpies’ manager left the Avenue on Monday.

Asked about Jermyn after the clash, the Terras’ chief told Echosport: “Great credit must go to Jem, I have the utmost respect for him as a person and a player.

“He always wore his heart on his sleeve, played with passion and that’s all a club can ask for.

“We had a little chat before the game, we have a good friendship and I wished him all the best in what he chose to do in the future.

“He will take some replacing for Dorchester Town Football Club.”

Asked if he felt the 1-1 scoreline between the sides was a fair result, Matthews added: “Probably, although I felt that we slightly shaded it.

“We changed the system with 25 minutes to go and that worked. We got Shep (Chris Shephard) on the ball a bit more and he scored a good goal.

“After that, we didn’t quite see it over the line which is probably the story of the last 10 games.”
