DORCHESTER Town starlet Tom Blair has said he is not going to be resting on his laurels despite making a spectacular breakthrough at the Avenue.

Blair has burst on to the scene this season, and after signing a two-year contract back on October, he says that everything that has come since has been a bonus.

He said: “It’s been a lot more than I expected. When I signed the contract I didn’t think I was going to be in the first team this season. I didn’t change my mindset and just made sure I got my head down and kept working hard.

“I’m trying not to think about things too much. I’m working hard in training, and trying to play consistently in the matches, which I think I’ve done over the last five or six matches.

“Both managers (Mark Jermyn and Craig Laird) have had a positive effect on me, so I’m really happy at the moment. We are fighting relegation but I’m enjoying playing football and I’m happy.”

But although the season is coming to an end, the 17-year-old is already working towards improving for next year.

He said: “I’ve been working hard on my fitness at the Reluco gym in Dorchester with Regan Coward. I’ve been going for a couple of months now and since I’ve been there my all-round fitness has got better, I’m stronger and I can jump higher. Mentally, that’s massive and now that I’ve got that in my game I can compete mentally and physically in this league.

“Personally, next season is a big season. I don’t think about getting big moves or anything like that, I just think that if it’s going to happen it’s going to happen. If I play how I am this season, or even better, I think I’ve got a good chance of getting a move at some point in the future.

“My confidence is high and I just want to carry on working hard, and next season is a massive season for both me and the club. If we do things properly we can push into mid-table or even the play-offs, that way we can get to Christmas and be stable and not be looking over our shoulder.”
