DORCHESTER Town manager Steve Thompson described his side’s 2-0 Dorset Senior Cup quarter-final loss at Wimborne Town as “very annoying”.

Two goals from ex-Magpie Toby Holmes settled the tie in Wimborne’s favour after a goalless first-half that saw both teams struggle to create chances on a chilly evening at Cuthbury.

Coming off the back of a 1-1 draw with Merthyr Town on Saturday, Thompson was displeased again with the manner of his side’s display.

He told Echosport: “I’m very disappointed with the performance, I thought it was poor and I’ve told the players that as well.

“There’s a lot of work to be done, always has been, but that’s very annoying and very frustrating.

“There’s no point running them into the ground on Thursday (in training), we’ve got two games now on Saturday and Monday.”

Thompson felt there was also a lack of fitness from his players, insisting some were “gone” midway through the second half.

He said: “A few looked absolutely gone on 55-60 minutes. Your level of fitness as a semi-professional footballer has got to be higher than some of those players.

“That’s not the only problem but that certainly was one problem.

“I looked at it at 55-60 minutes and could have brought any one of five or six players off who looked like treading water.”
