DORCHESTER Town manager Steve Thompson expressed his displeasure with a poor Magpies performance during their 2-0 loss to Wimborne Town in the Dorset Senior Cup quarter-finals.

Two goals from former Magpies’ striker Toby Holmes condemned Dorchester to their third loss in November.

Thompson also felt that there could be “no excuses” for the result after selecting a side that carried just two changes from Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Merthyr Town.

He told Echosport: “You could put it down to complacency, but it certainly wasn’t that. It was a very strong team, no excuses whatsoever.

“Wimborne deserved to win and our performance wasn’t good enough. I’ve let the players know in no uncertain terms.

“I was going to give them their first Tuesday or Thursday off on a training session if we’d won the game, but that certainly ain’t happening. You can’t reward that sort of performance.

“Thursday won’t be physical, it can’t be. We’ve got two massive games Saturday and Monday, but they will be in, they will listen and hopefully we can produce a better performance on Saturday and Monday.”

Before kick-off Dorchester extended the loan deals of Plymouth Argyle centre-back Callum Rose, 19, and Bristol Rovers winger Mo Baghdadi, 21.

Rose had his deal extended by two months, with Baghdadi’s lengthened up to and including Saturday, December 23.

Thompson said: “I was pleased to get Callum, I thought he was one of our better

performers (against Wimborne) without a doubt.

“Mo didn’t have his best game but what he did have is a level of fitness that is

acceptable, maybe because he’s a full-time player.

“He’ll be the first to admit his

performances in the last two games have not been good enough but he’s not the only one by a long way.
