ANTONIO Diaz was glad to make his return to Dorchester in the 1-0 win against Royston on Saturday in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

Diaz re-signed for the Magpies on Thursday on a work experience deal from Bournemouth.

Diaz said: “Aaron Rodriguez scored a great goal for us and it is a good feeling to come back in and get the three points and get going again.

“It was really good. I thought the boys gelled really well and it was a tough game for us.

“Royston are going and pushing for the play-offs but I thought we played really well. We stuck together and then in the end we had good chances.

Diaz, 18, enjoyed numerous good chances in the Royston win but each time was met by Josh Tibbetts in the Royston goal.

Diaz said: “I was happy, I would have liked to have scored.

“I thought the goalkeeper pulled off a few good saves but the main thing is that the team win and then hopefully I can contribute to the team winning but the goals will come hopefully.”

This is Diaz’s second spell at Dorchester so far this season, having first joined in December.

When asked how he felt when he realised he would return to Dorchester, Diaz said: “I was really looking forward to it, I wanted to come back and play lads, they are a great bunch of lads and I know we can play really well and hopefully we can finish the season really strongly.”

His next chance to appear for the Magpies will come tomorrow as the Magpies travel to Kettering Town (7.45pm).

Diaz said: “I know they need the points but hopefully we can dim their hopes and beat them as well.”
