DORCHESTER Town boss Steve Thompson is facing an injury dilemma ahead of the Magpies’ Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division meeting with St Neots Town at the Avenue Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

Thompson’s 10 men bravely battled to a 4-3 loss at Kettering on Tuesday night but Luke Winsper and Chris Weale are just two of the injury concerns the Magpies’ manager has ahead of the visit of the Saints.

Yesterday evening’s training session was also cancelled in a bid to rest injured players and prevent further injuries.

Speaking to Echosport, Thompson admitted it would be difficult to pick the team up after twice seeing a leading position completely overturned in a thrilling match at Latimer Park.

He said: “It will be difficult, but that’s what we have to do. Obviously I don’t know what team I can turn out.

“Emma (Tonkin, physio) will assess three or four players and there’s a lot of people hobbling.

Whatever it is, it is. I’m just pleased that we’re not in a position where the play-offs matter, or there’s a relegation issue.”

Thompson concluded that the Magpies’ poor league away form was insignificant during a match in which Dorchester ran the league’s fourth-placed side ragged on occasions.

“That pales into insignificance, the players don’t deserve it for me to talk about that. I’m pretty confident we would have won with 11 men, we were in control of the game.

“I felt we would have gone on to win the game, but that’s football. Just when you think it’s going well, something happens, but it’s not often you get a standing ovation off both sets of supporters,” he said.

Thompson also hinted that he had discovered more about the character of his players with a view to next season’s squad list, before playing St Neots tomorrow.

He said: “Certainly some players have shown me they deserve to be here at the end of the season.

“We’re at home and whatever team we turn out I’m confident we can be competitive. I know that it’s going to be tough because we’re not going to have the team that we would like to put out because of injuries.”

The Dorchester manager is “hopeful” that Antonio Diaz will return, while Ross Carmichael will be available for the Magpies’ next two games despite being sent off against Kettering, with league rules stating his one-match ban will come into force exactly seven days after his dismissal.
