WEYMOUTH LADIES II 6

SWANAGE & WAREHAM III 0

WEYMOUTH hit six of the best despite giving debuts to several new players.

The Seasiders took the lead in the first minute when Sonya Hughes opened her side’s account.

The hosts continued to dominate possession, with some fast inter-play between Olivia Treadwell and Daena Shah. Weymouth kept possession close to the D, which led to a second goal in the fifth minute, scored again by Hughes.

Strong attacking play from Weymouth allowed them to set up another goal, flicked in by Shah.

After the third goal was conceded, the visitors came into the game more and eventually won a long corner but it was not converted.

Weymouth coach Wayne Goff then brought on Emily Acutt who tackled well in her first league game.

Swanage & Wareham took possession, but this was quickly won back and Weymouth were awarded a long corner. Shah then weaved in and out of three players and hit a great shot, scoring and increasing the Seasiders’ lead to four.

Seconds afterwards, debutante Ladonna Forrest took up a good position near the post and scored to make it 5-0.

The visitors stepped up their defence making it more difficult for Weymouth to drive the ball as they had in the first half.

Soon after, a second short corner was awarded to the home side with Issie Gilliver injecting excellently but again no conversion was made but possession was retained.

Shah attempted another goal but was unsuccessful and Hughes was well positioned for the rebound but narrowly missed. Great attacking play from Claire Thomasson set up Shah well, and she took a strike from the edge of the D to make it six.
