WEYMOUTH Boxing Club holds a dinner boxing show at the Weymouth Pavilion tonight.

The action starts at 7pm with 18 bouts of boxing over the course of the evening with five of the ties competing for the Western Counties Senior Elite Championships,

Club president David Nelmes is excited about the evening and is looking forward to seeing local boxers perform.

He said: “It should be a very interesting evening. We have some championship bouts and they should be some very good fights. They’re all experienced lads, so we’re looking forward to a good night.”

There are many experienced boxers on the card, coming from across the south and even from Poland.

Nelmes picked out Dean Courtney as one to watch tonight. He will be taking on Pawell Augustynit at around 9pm.

“Dean (Courtney) from Camborne has fought more than 50 fights and his opponent Pawell has fought 47 winning 30, so that’s going to be a good bout. We’re going to have the schoolboy bouts followed by the championship bouts followed by the club bouts.”

The evening will see club debuts for Ziaul Islaim, Lewis Scard and Libby McGuiness. Nelmes is looking forward to see them.

“It will be interesting to see how they perform with all the people and the pressure,” the organiser explained.
