TWENTY-SIX members of the Dorset Pentathletes took part in the National Modern Triathlon Championships at Solihull, in the Midlands.

The event is a swim and a shoot/run combined event with competitors getting points for each event depending on times.

The distances were dependant on age with the shortest run 800 metres with the longest being 2400m.

The swim was 50 metres up to 200 metres with a break between disciplines.

This was the largest amount of competitors that Dorset Pentathletes have had in this type of event and the team did the county proud in the championships

winning three team golds and one silver.

In the individual competition there were two golds, three silvers and three bronzes which is the most medals the club have won at this event.

The team also finished as one of the top teams in the competition, which was also the highest place the club have finished in the national triathlon.

The pellet competition was held on the Saturday and in the under-13 girls’ competition Lily Amor took the gold medal with Vivian Taylor in bronze.

The team also won gold.

In the under-15 event, Rebecca Warland was sixth. In the boys’ under-13 competition, Jack Amor took silver with Finn Sanderson in fourth.

In the under-15 boys’ discipline, Shem Martin was third and Ollie Sanderson finished sixth.

Ryan Openshaw won a bronze in the laser competition and Amy Northam picked up a silver medal.

Libby Tolley became the club’s second national champion in the under-17 girls and hopes to

be part of the Great Britain team for the European Champion-

ships.

In the under-17 boys’ category, George Case was fourth, Alex Felton 12th and Monty Podger 14th with the boys picking up a team silver.

In the under-19 girls’ event, Katherine Townsend was seventh.

Team coach Mick Flaherty said: “Once again the kids have

done a great job in their efforts at the nationals, and it is hoped to have a bigger turnout from

the club at the 2017 triathlon event.”

The club is now busy looking forward to the new season ahead with lots of events to look forward to, and training has now started for the new season.
