BASEPOINT 9

BELLE 72

CRESTA 23

DEPLETED Cresta gave their all but it wasn’t enough to prevent Belle from winning convincingly.

Cresta’s GA Jayne Guppy scored two consecutive goals while stealing possession from Belle.

Belle soon made their player advantage work for them, closing the gap and pulling ahead despite a sixth Cresta player arriving.

Slippery conditions under foot and a wet ball meant a few mistakes were made.

Louise Buglar for Belle, with no opponent put some fantastic feeds into both shooters, who converted with ease, however, Cresta continued to fight.

Positional changes from either side saw a mix-up in their play, however, continual hard work and great interceptions from Belle’s GD Lauren Walker made Cresta’s life that little bit harder.

Not ones to give in, Cresta’s Jess Buckseal and June Reed worked well in the centre third, and fed some great balls in to their shooters in the closing stages.

Both teams played some good netball despite the rain but it was Belle who stormed ahead to win.

OTC 34

WJNC 7

USING their speed and enthusiasm against OTC’s experience, WJNC worked tirelessly to get the ball into their shooters but they were unable to hit target.

Using this to their advantage, OTC quickly pushed themselves ahead, leading by nine goals.

An unfortunate fall for the Juniors meant they were a player down for a fraction of the second quarter, which soon showed.

OTC began to control the game converting the ball from interceptions in to passes for their shooters and then some effortless goals from Bryony White ensured they remained ahead.

Some silly mistakes by OTC in the third meant defenders Cleo Patterson and Izzie Roberts could play the ball around for WJNC and help push their team further.

However, Emma Bright proved herself to be a key player for OTC, making key interceptions.

The juniors played a good game and in the final stages, one final push helped them prevent OTC taking a greater lead than they already had. Smooth, clean and experienced play prevailed for OTC in this damp conditions, continuing their unbeaten season.

POACHERS 32

However, strong defensive play from Poachers’ Nicole Birley saw her team move ahead.

The relentless rain continued into the second quarter which saw several players slip over and have difficulty catching the ball.

Wyke settled down and began to control the court and started to show a steady lead.

Both teams came out fighting again, making this a closely matched quarter, however, Tracy Moore now had her eye on the target not missing any opportunities and increasing Wyke’s lead to seven.

Despite Wyke leading in the last quarter, Poachers were determined to fight back with great defending from Gilly Woodsford.

However, at the the final whistle it was Wyke who sealed the win.
